If this happened, it's way more likely to be openmaibox (https://digdeeper.neocities.org/ghost/email.html#Openmailbox). But it also could have been malware, phishing or stuff like that.

Highly unlikely. Especially the fact they allegedly deleted his accounts.

How does he know about all this ? Did he get any warning ? From the service providers ? From the tax authorities ?

And it's just an overlook of yours that you did not happen to link to those articles, where we would learn so many incriminating things about the evil Singapore authorities ?
